6149: Ali's Gift- charity in memory of OB Ali Beament (19/02/2018)
In about 9 & 1/2 weeks time OB Tim Benton (2003-2010) is going to be the first ever entrant running the London Marathon on behalf of Ali's Gift, the charity set up in memory of OB Ali Beament. Please see below a brief summary of what the charity is all about: Ali's Gift was created in Ali's memory with two aims, firstly to give small financial rewards to young CF sufferers who have shown a dedication to studying in order to recognise their hard work. Secondly, to award personal ‘gifts’ to individuals who have a passion or goal that they need help in accomplishing. The Charity want to encourage independence and create awesome memories for the sufferers and their families. Sufferers can either apply for a gift directly or a friend, family member, teacher As both Ali and myself were OB's, I was hoping to utilise the OBA to circulate my fundraising efforts to the wider network of OBs that knew myself and Alistair in the hope of raising as much as we can for a great cause. 6113: OB Iymaan Sheikh (2008-2015) to volunteer in Ethiopia (02/05/2017)
I graduated Bancroft's in 2015 and I am currently in my second year studying Law with Politics LLB at the University of Manchester. This summer for 3 months I am volunteering abroad through International Citizen Service in Partnership with VSO (Voluntary service oversees). VSO is an international development charity that holds the vision for a world without poverty. They send volunteers abroad across the developing world to make a difference and empower young people. We are so fortunate in England to have access to clean running water, free healthcare and above all a pretty amazing education system. I know I personally felt very fortunate to have been able to attend one of the top schools in England. When I go across in June to Mekelle, a city based in the northern region of Ethiopia, I will be staying with a host family and working in the local community. One of my specific projects that I will be undertaking while over there is in education. All across the developing world there are thousands of children that either have no access to education or the education they get given is simply not sufficient enough to help them grow. For the developing world to grow and become the striving communities they can be, educating the younger generation is key. One of my challenges before I go abroad to volunteer is to raise £800. This money is not to pay for my flights or accommodation, that is all paid separately by VSO who receive funding from the government, but rather I am fundraising this £800 for VSO itself. The money will go directly to them to help them continue their amazing work around the world and will help them not only expand into more countries but to also continue sending volunteers abroad. Here is my JustGiving page where there is more information about VSO and my placement abroad; https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/iymaan-sheikh

6106: OB Charlotte Krishek (2003-2014) to climb Mt Kilimanjaro (19/01/2017)
This summer Charlotte is climbing Mt Kilimanjaro for charity. She needs to raise £3,000. Half of this amount will go towards the charity dig deep, with the other half covering travel costs. Dig deep works with rural communities in Kenya to access water and sanitation. They implement training and appropriate technologies to bring about sustainable improvements in health and education. They aspire to enable people to break the cycle of poverty and transform their own lives. If you would like to support Charlotte, please donate by copying and pasting the following link https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/charlottekrishek1
